Hi All,

I am very interested in finding more out about WILLIAM COPPLESTONE, who was killed in the Nery area in September 1914. He is my wife's great uncle, and we want to find all that we can, so that he has his rightful place in our family history.

Thankyou,

rpetersfh

[quote="rpetersfh"]Hi All,

Hi "rpetersfh"
Thanks for using the forum. All I can tell you about William Copplestone is that he was aged twenty and killed at "The Affair at Néry" on 1st September 1914. He was a Gunner in the Royal Horse Atillery and is burried in the village communal cemetery at Néry. Sadly the confusing aspect is that there are two entries for Copplestone W E in the War Graves Commision records, one stating that he is burried at Néry, the other stating that he is burried at Verberie National Cemetery. The War Graves Commission should be able to clear up this duplication.Their web site is
http://www.cwgc.org
The site allows you a search facility for cemeteries or / and names.
Kind regards

[quote="rpetersfh"]Hi All,

Hi rpetersfh
I have sent a message to the War Graves Commission asking to clarify the duplication in their records concerning your relative. I hope this of assistance to you and please get in touch if I can help any further.

George

Hi George,

Many thanks for contacting the CWGC about the burial, what little I have been able to find out, tells me that 'L' Battery were extremely courageous, no less than three 'VC's being awarded as a result, so there should be a wealth of information about the battle available!

Best wishes,

Ray
